Have any of you ever been stuck in a rut? Things not going your way and you have no idea what’s the matter? Yeah, me too. So what do we do when we find ourselves not feeling…well, ourselves?
I am going to share with you some of the tips that work for me in the hopes that a few might even help you! The first thing I do when I am feeling “off” is ask myself some simple questions. Like…
- Am I getting an adequate amount of sleep?
- How’s my diet? Am I eating enough vegetables?
- Am I studying the scriptures and saying my prayers?
- Am I exercising?
And that’s about it. Ten out of ten times, I am not doing one or more of the above. Bit why does it matter if these things are so simple!? Maybe I feel down because I need to save the world or something cool like that????!
Nope, I am sorry to say that we really just need to go back to the basics. Sounds boring, but it’s the plain truth. The basics are life. They are the way. It’s amazing how much growth we can accomplish just by, say, writing in our journals every night for 10 years straight. Okay I admit, that was me! I could have told myself that it was pointless, but instead I kept to my goal. And now, I actually love to write and I know I wouldn’t be writing for this blog without the basic goal I had so many years ago!
Sometimes I feel like we try to avoid the basics, and hope that something else will save us in our times of struggle. God teaches us that it is “by small and simple means, great things are brought to pass”. I know that this is true. I have seen it in my own life! It isn’t always easy or exciting to remember the basics, but it is always worth it.
