Can I tell you how excited for this blog interview?! When I was thinking about who I wanted to talk to for this interview, I immediately thought of the adorable Lexi Walker. Since I first saw her singing on her viral Let it Go video with Alex Boye a year ago, I have been so impressed with how she has carried herself in the spotlight. This 12 year old girl is so hardworking and wise beyond her years.
Even with her insanely busy schedule of middle school, homework, voice lessons, performances, and traveling all over the globe, Lexi was sweet enough to answer a few questions for us! Thanks Lexi!
How did you get your start in music?
I have always loved to sing!! When I was in 5th grade I tried out for Canyons Idol for my school district and because I won, I got to sing our national anthem at a Real Salt Lake Soccer game. Things kind of took off after that.
(If you haven’t seen the viral video of Lexi singing at that game, click here! It’s unbelievable.)
What has been the most surreal moment of your musical career so far?
Every moment has been surreal! I have performed with amazing people in amazing places! My favorite ones would probably be when I performed for President Monson at his Christmas luncheon, the Kennedy Center, and the Disney Christmas Day Parade.
How do you balance life as a 12 year old girl with life as a professional musician?
Well, I pray a lot and then try hard to get all my homework done. I think that’s what everyone does though. If you want to do a good job at something you have to work hard and do your best.
What do you do to prepare for a performance?
I make sure I have a good warm up and don’t eat anything the hour before the performance starts.
What do you hope to accomplish through your music?
That’s easy! I hope my music will inspire others and help them feel what I feel when I’m singing.
Tell me something most people don’t know about you.
I love to fly and travel. I love whole milk, not skim. I love having a tiny, little piece of chocolate before I sing… even though I probably shouldn’t. ☺
What brings you the most joy?
The knowledge I have that Jesus Christ is real and that we can be redeemed.
Where do you see yourself in ten years?
In ten years I hope I’ve graduated from college and hopefully am working toward having my own family.
How has the Gospel helped you in your life?
Having the Gospel in my life influences everything I do! Without it, it would be very easy to get caught up in the ways of the world.
What advice would you give to other aspiring performers?
Be yourself. Everyone has different gifts and talents. Find out what yours are and share them with those around you.
Thanks Lexi for letting us learn more about you!
