Believe it or not, success to a good morning starts BEFORE you go to bed. Yep, I said it, before bed. To make sure you are waking up chipper and ready to take on the day you need to get enough sleep the night before! Teens need 8-10 hours a sleep a night, and young adults need 6-8.

One success I have found to have a good night sleep is having an evening routine. At what age did we stop having a nightly routine and decide we could go straight from watching the television to hoping into bed and falling straight to sleep? Think about any child. We bathe them, read to them, sing to them, and rock them before they go to sleep. Children have bedtimes, why don’t we? Gretchen Rubin, author of the “Happiness Project,” suggests we set an alarm to go to bed.

Create a night time routine today! Here are some ideas:

  1. Wash, exfoliate, and tone face

  2. Brush teeth

  3. Get in PJ’s

  4. Write in journal

  5. Say prayers

  6. Read scriptures

  7. Read a book

From the time I start my routine to the time I fall asleep is about one hour. It has become the best part of my day! I look forward to this routine and when it is time to fall asleep I am ready to do so.

One of my favorite steps in my nightly routine is after washing my face and brushing my teeth I pick up my bathroom and clean off my sink. One of the first places we see in the morning is the bathroom. To start off our morning not having to worry about cleaning is great! I find joy every morning walking into a sparkling clean bathroom.

The last thing I do before I go to bed is to read an uplifting book or my scriptures. Did you know the last thing you think about before you go to bed is often the first thing you think about when you wake up? Makes sense right? I learned that if the last thing I think is positive, then I wake up in a better mood and I am ready to take on the day!
